Tree Program

We are excited to announce that the 2024 tree sale program will be offered online.  Additionally, we are offering native seed packets for the first time.  One of the benefits of switching to online ordering is the ability to see what species are still available when you order.  Quantities are limited so order soon.

Polk County's Tree and Shrub Program has been offered for over 36 years selling nearly 775,000 trees.  The purpose of the program is to fund the various youth educational programs sponsored by the Land and Water Resources Department (LWRD).  Through the sale of trees, LWRD is able to host a Conservation Poster and Speaking Contest every January for area students.  A Tri-County Land Judging contest is also offered to all Polk, Burnett, and Washburn County students in October each year. Each Polk County 6th grader also receives a pine seedling in the spring.

The program offers a variety of pines, hardwoods, shrubs, fruits, and native seed packets for landowners to purchase and plant.  A January mailing with program information is sent to landowners who have purchased trees in the past or request to receive information about the program.  The sale opens in January and products are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis until stock is sold out.  The items offered change each year based on availability, past demand, and customer feedback.

Tree pickup is the last Friday in April.  Trees are distributed in the "shed" behind the Government Center in Balsam Lake.  Reminder postcards are mailed out two weeks prior to pickup.

If you are interested in participating in the tree sale, would like to have your name included on our mailing list, or have any questions please contact the Land & Water Resources Department at 715-485-8699 or email nicole.schmid@polkcountywi.gov.
