Balsam Branch Trail - Ski & Snowshoe Recreation Area - Brochure - Map

The Balsam Branch Trail - Ski & Snowshoe Recreation Area provides snowshoeing and hiking on the portion of the trail that is not groomed for cross-country skiing. The trail is provided as the result of a cooperative effort between the Polk County Department of Parks & Trails, Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp, Town of Garfield, and the Nordic Ski Club of Amery. Trails opens December 1st following Wisconsin deer rifle season. Trails are groomed for classical and skate skiing. Located between Amery and Balsam Lake on 120th Ave before D.D. Kennedy Park. The trail is 18 minutes from Amery by traveling north on State Hwy 46, left on County Rd H, and left on 120th Ave. All trails may be traveled in either direction.

4+K of the trails are lighted from dusk to 11:00 p.m.

Prohibited Trail Uses
No dogs are allowed on the trails. Snowshoeing and hiking are not allowed on the groomed portion of the trails.

Somers Lake Trail - Map

Polk County offers the Somers Lake Trail for ungroomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Somers Lake is a scenic wooded 2-mile closed loop trail 5 miles east of Frederic. The gravel trail is also available all year for equestrian use that includes an expanded parking lot for trailors.

Prohibited Trail Uses
No person shall drive any motorized vehicles such as cars, trucks, or go-carts, on any trail at any time or operate off-road motorcycles on a designated trail.
