All Polk County Snowmobile trails are now open and in GOOD condition. As always please stay between markers on marked trails.

All Polk County Trails & Uses:
Snowmobile Trails
Open: Weather permitting the Polk County Parks & Trails Department in collaboration with Polk County Snowmobile Council opens and closes the snowmobile trails between December 12th and March 31st with at least 6 inches of snow.
Balsam Branch Trail
Now open as of December 1st with adequate snow to hiking, skiing and snowshoeing. For grooming updates click skinnyski.
DD Kennedy Park & Ahlgren Wildlife Preserve Trails
Prairie restoration hiking trails open year-round.
Cattail State Trail
Open year-round. Multi-use crushed gravel trail for motorized vehicles, bicycling, hiking, and equestrians. Off road motorcycles allowed spring/summer/fall.
Gandy Dancer State Trail
Limestone paved trail open to bicycling and hiking use only (April-November). Snowmobile use permitted when posted from December 1st -March 31st conditions permitting. Frozen ground ATV/UTV permitted when posted.
Sawmill County Trail
Open year-round. Crushed gravel trail open to hiking, bicycling, ATV/UTV's and motorcycle use only. Off road motorcycles allowed spring/summer/fall. Snowmobile use is permitted when posted.
Somers Lake Trail
Open year-round to biking, equestrians, hiking, ungroomed cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing use only.
Sterling/Jack Pine Loop County Trail & Campground
Open year-round for ATV/UTV use only.
Stower Seven Lakes State Trail
Open to bicycling and hiking year-round. Open to equestrians (10/1/22 through 11/19/22). Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling is permitted when posted.
