On August 13, 2018, the Polk County Highway Department officially moved in to the new Highway Facility. The facility opened to the general public on September 29, 2018.

New Highway Facility
In June of 2016, Former County Administrator Frey presented his annual condition of the County report to the County Board and citizens of Polk County. "The condition of Polk County's infrastructure is good to excellent, with one huge exception," he said. The next few images displayed the aging and depleted infrastructures on the current Highway Facility campus. He went on to explain how, for the first time in decades, Polk County can replace an obsolete, potentially dangerous and inefficient building with a reasonable structure that meets basic requirements without a tax increase. The recommendations that followed Administrator Frey's presentation kicked off the Polk County Highway Facility project.

Presentation to the Committee of the Whole - March 2017 This presentation was given to the County Board in response to a resolution directing Administrator Frey to explore agreements with Bishop Fixtures and Millwork and the Village of Balsam Lake to obtain property and physical structures in the Balsam Lake Industrial Park.
Site Assessment Report - Parcel and Design Options Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc. (SEH) completed a site assessment of industrial parcels in the Village of Balsam Lake in the Fall of 2016. These results were presented to the Executive Committee for consideration and recommendation to the County Board.
County Board acts to move forward with Bishop and Village Industrial Park properties The County Board votes to direct Administrator Frey to develop and negotiate preliminary agreements with the Village of Balsam Lake and Bishop Corporation towards the prospective purchase of lands located in the Industrial Park.
