Road Construction


2023 ROAD CONSTRUCTION SEASON:


County Highway P will begin on Monday, April 24th between US 63 and County Road A. They will be pulverizing the first week so the road will be closed to traffic during the day.  The paving is scheduled for the week of May 8th and the project is expected to be completed near the end of May. Shouldering will be the week of May 15th.

County Highway V (STH 8 to 160th Avenue) is scheduled for paving the week of June 5th and shouldering the week of June 12th. 

County Highway N is scheduled for milling the week of August 21st August 28th (rescheduled), paving the week of August 28th September 5th (rescheduled) and shouldering the week of September 11th September 18th (rescheduled). 

County Highway Z is scheduled for paving the week of August 28th September 5th (rescheduled) and shouldering the week of September 11th September 18th (rescheduled). 

County Highway D (south of Clayton) is scheduled for milling the week of August 21st August 28th (rescheduled) and paving the week of September 5th  September 11th (resheduled). 

Segments of County Highways JJ, W and G (through Milltown) are scheduled to be chip sealed the first two weeks of August. 

Bridges on County Highway K and B are also scheduled for maintenance during 2023.  CTH K bridge is tentatively scheduled to start July 10th with a estimated completion date at the end of September. UPDATE ON CTH K Bridge - This project has been postponed tentatively until September. 

Currently STH 63 is under construction.   

The construction on STH 65 will begin May 15th with portions of the highway shut down starting right away on the south end of the project.  STH 46 through Amery is the official detour. This highway will be closed for the summer with the project completion in September.

STH 35 from Stoekley Road to 190th Avenue is scheduled to be chip sealed and fog sealed the week of July 31st.

There will be ongoing maintenance projects for county highways and state roads that include filling potholes, crack sealing, spray patching, along with the replacement of culverts.

Public Involvement Notice

Improvements to County K at Wapogasset Branch

The Polk County Highway Department is planning improvements for County K over Wapogasset Branch in the Town of Alden. Project information can be found in this notice or by contacting the individuals below.

The Wapogasset Branch bridge project involves improvements to the roadway and bridge approximately 2.3 miles east of WIS 65.  The proposed improvement will include the removal of the existing single-span timber flat slab bridge and construction of a new single-span concrete flat slab bridge.  The approximately 375-foot-long project will include replacement of the bridge at the existing location and 332.5 feet of roadway approaches with placement of new guardrail and improved roadway cross slope. 

During construction of the County K project, the bridge will be closed to traffic. A detour route will be signed.  Construction is anticipated to take approximately 3 months during 2023.  The earliest construction could begin is June 15th due to in-stream work restrictions.  The exact timeframe will be determined by the contractor based on their availability. 

Additional right-of-way is anticipated to be needed to build the project for the grading behind the guardrail and placement of riprap at the structure.

Improvements to CTH W Bridge at McKenzie Creek 

The Polk County Highway Department is planning improvements for CTH W over McKenzie Creek in the Town of Clam Falls/Town of Bone Lake. Project information can be found in this notice or by contacting the individuals below. 

The McKenzie Creek bridge project involves improvements to the roadway and bridge approximately 0.7 miles west of CTH O. The proposed improvement will include the removal of the existing single-span timber flat slab bridge and construction of a new single-span concrete flat slab bridge. The approximately 242.5-foot-long project will include replacement of the bridge at the existing location and 200 feet of roadway approaches. 

During construction of the CTH W project, the bridge will be closed to traffic. A detour route will be signed utilizing CTH W to, 100th St., to 90th St., to 330th St., to 335th St., to 50th St, to CTH W. The proposed detour route is 11.4 miles long. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 3 months during 2025. The earliest construction could begin is May 16th due to in-stream work restrictions. The exact timeframe will be determined by the contractor based on their availability. Additional right-of-way is not anticipated to be needed to build the project.

Improvements to 357th Ave Bridge over Indian Creek

The Polk County Highway Department in conjunction with the Town of Lorain is planning improvements for 357th Avenue over Indian Creek. Project information can be found in this notice or by contacting the individuals below.

The Indian Creek bridge project involves improvements to the roadway and bridge approximately 1.6 miles north of CTH E.  The proposed improvement will include the removal of the existing single-span timber flat slab bridge and construction of a new single-span concrete flat slab bridge.  The approximately 200-foot-long project will include replacement of the bridge at the existing location and 159.5 feet of roadway approaches. 

During construction of the 357th Avenue project, the bridge will be closed to traffic. A detour route will not be signed.  Construction is anticipated to take approximately 3 months during 2025.  The earliest construction could begin is May 16th due to in-stream work restrictions.  The exact timeframe will be determined by the contractor based on their availability. 

Additional right-of-way is not anticipated to be needed to build the project.
