Polk County Recycling Center Hosts Successful Electronic Collection Event

POLK COUNTY, Wisconsin, November, 2, 2023—Polk County Recycling Center, located in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, is thrilled to announce the tremendous success of their recent Electronic Collection event held on Thursday, October 19th, 2023. The event, hosted from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, drew 478 vehicles, resulting in the disposal of an estimated 39 tons of electronic waste, diverting these materials from the waste stream. This is more than double the tons of electronics collected during last year’s event.

This free event was open to residents, providing an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted electronic devices responsibly. The center offered free drop-off for the first 200 pounds per vehicle of qualified electronic devices. A fee of 45¢ per pound was charged for anything over 200 pounds. Polk County Recycling Center accepts electronics any time during its regular hours of operation, with a fee of 45¢ per pound. More information about the center's services and operations can be found on their website at https://www.polkcountywi.gov/recycling.

A significant part of the success of this Electronic Collection event can be attributed to Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations, who generously supported the initiative by providing the opportunity for free drop-offs. All electronics collected during the event were subsequently sent to Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations, located in Onalaska, Wisconsin. With over 15 years of experience, Dynamic specializes in removing confidential information and disassembling electronics for recycling into new products.

In addition, Polk County Recycling Center would like to express its gratitude to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) E-recycle program. This innovative program places the responsibility on manufacturers to ensure that electronic devices are properly recycled. E-Cycle Wisconsin, a statewide, manufacturer-funded initiative, focuses on recycling electronics commonly found in homes and schools. Supported by Wisconsin's electronic recycling law, the program aims to keep electronics, including televisions, computers, and cell phones, out of landfills and incinerators, thus contributing to a more sustainable and eco-conscious Wisconsin.
